Director of Platform Engineering (Remote, Europe/North America)

Job summary

The role involves leading the platform and infrastructure strategy for a scaling startup focused on climate solutions. The Director will oversee SRE, MLOps, and Platform teams, ensuring the development of a reliable infrastructure that supports rapid product development and customer demand.

Qualifications

• Over 10 years of experience in leading platform, infrastructure, or reliability teams in a scaling startup environment.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native infrastructure, preferably GCP, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience with machine learning systems in production, including model deployment and monitoring.
• Proven track record of building scalable systems for fast-moving product teams.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Own and align the platform strategy with company and product goals.
• Grow senior individual contributors and managers across multiple teams, fostering technical leadership and healthy cultures.
• Define and evolve the platform vision, including developer experience, internal tooling, CI/CD, and reliability standards.
• Oversee MLOps systems supporting model development and governance in production.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the platform meets current and future needs.
• Balance speed and stability, making tradeoffs between innovation, cost, and operational excellence.
• Set metrics for platform performance and developer productivity.

Skills

• Strong people leadership and coaching abilities.
• Experience in data- or ML-heavy products.
• Familiarity with geospatial data or image processing is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred.

Tools

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP preferred), Kubernetes, CI/CD tools, and MLOps frameworks.
